Dede's Choice: Playlist Edition

Hi, welcome or welcome back to Discussions with Dede! I love listening to music; it is my safe place and my playlist is top-tier! I have been trying to find more dark-skin female artists because I feel like they are very underrated. I love listening to underground artists because they are so talented and their sound is very unique.

I’m not even going to lie to you, I am a gate-keeper lowkey. I like to be the “only person” listening to certain artists because I’ve been with some of them since the beginning, you know? It’s a problem I have, I know, but at least I acknowledge it and I’m honest about it lol. I’ve been listening to Summer Walker since her E.P. Last Day of Summer and I just love her. I think “Girls Need Love” came out in 2018 and I listened to it so much but everyone jumped onto it in 2019. I really don’t like it when people run songs into the ground especially when it came out like a year or two before. I was tight but I was happy she was getting the recognition she deserved.

Anyways, in the spirit of working on not gate-keeping anymore, I want to share a few of my favorite new songs and underground artists with you all!

I have been absolutely obsessed with the song “Stay Tru” by Mereba! First of all, she’s gorgeous and pregnant, so she has this glow to her. She has gorgeous brown skin, and her music always puts me in my feelings. She has so many more amazing songs, but “Stay Tru” is one of my favorites.

“Onto Something” by Jayla Darden is so good. She is so underrated and this song transports me to another place. The song gives me “late night car ride” vibes, so if you’re into that definitely check her out.

“Black and White” by Nasty C and Ari Lennox is so calming. Honestly, I just don’t even know how to describe it. I love me some Ari, so anything she’s on I’m rocking with it.

“Love is Stronger than Pride” by Amber Mark is a beautiful song. Insecure put me on and I’m so glad it did because I’m obsessed. It has a jazzy feel, and even if you’ve never been in love, you feel the lyrics of the song. The original, by Sade, is unmatched, but I think Amber did really well on this cover.

Ok, so this one is not technically a song but it was performed at the Soul Train Awards by multiple artists, and it was just so good. First of all, the UK snapped on this cypher like everyone really did that. All my faves were in it so it was really hard to choose, but Shae Universe has to be my favorite. I feel like she really owned the beat the best. Watch the whole thing because they all did really well. The UK has some of the best R&B artists in the game right now.

Lastly, “How Long til we’re home” by Ego Ella May is such a great song and the video is beautiful. Her voice is so rich; the song has a very deep meaning but it still has a very soft sound.

Honorable Mentions=

Yayy, I’m no longer a gate-keeper! You all should be proud of me lol! I hope you guys really enjoyed listening to my playlist because I LOOOOVEE music. I love R&B especially; I live in my feelings lol. Listen to my recommendations and tell me what you think.

This is gonna be my final post for the summer, but don’t be too sad chile, I’ll be back on September 12th!! As always, thank you for all the support! See you then… or not!
